David Forman Project, America Hates Talent EP (2018)
Corsair - This is a chill but funky retro track (I play acoustic on this track). It's a well-choreographed jam between all members of the band. Genre bending at its finest. A Prince-like groove - we tried to channel the Purple One. Drake Don't Dare - I started fingerpicking this on guitar (I play acoustic on this track too). The band took it to another level. Classic mellow vibey flow. Begins with a relaxed groove that gives way to a pop/rock jam. Keyboard player is a mad man. The Last Laugh - Freaky, creepy, trippy, cosmic journey. Ambient and emotional as f**k. Enjoy the ride. |
Meet My Music
My music is not one thing. Yes, you can call it funk rock, but it’s a lot of different styles. If you like seventh chords, if you like bass syncopation with heavy drums, you’ll like what I do. Even someone who isn’t into that but just wants a good beat or danceable stuff will dig this.

David Forman Project, Debut (2014)
No2 - This is just like a crazy funk rock war between the guitar and bass. They are talking to each other and fighting during the solo.
Ocean Thunder - It's all about coming back to the main riff. It’s inside out. It starts in one place, goes in a direction you don’t think it will go, and comes back—doing one riff, going in places you don’t expect it to be, going out of your way and coming back to the starting point. It’s like a musical boomerang.
Aztec - I taught myself to play guitar a year after playing bass. I wanted to know what guitar players were doing; they always had secrets from me. Bastards! I came up with this acoustic guitar part first; the lyrics came later. It’s about someone sarcastic and caustic and not wanting to date or be in the BS of a relationship.
Undo - This is a fun funk rock song that comes from how much I just really like Red Hot Chili Peppers even though it doesn’t sound like any of their songs. The change is that I’m playing with a salsa beat. The drummer really brings that out. This is a cool, fun dance song. When I’m in a bad mood I play this song.
Bug – I pictured some little water bug flying around the water. The beginning is very flittery then it slows down. When I wrote it, this wasn’t slow. In the studio Matt said let’s slow it down and make two distinct parts. The guitar player keeps stomping on his wa-wa pedal, locking in with the drummer. Bass is staying in the pocket, and keeping the song alive.
Karmic Wheel – This is the first song I ever wrote on acoustic guitar. I had the honor of having Tony Levin recording a bass track on this song. It’s like my first musical journey on the guitar, going up and down on the neck, introducing some new chords.
We Need to Talk – This sound is seventies and funky, retro. The first part is the woman asking where are we going in his relationship. You’re always having your friends around. We don’t do anything. The second part is the man's refutation.
B.T.F. – I usually play a four string bass. I got a five string bass; the extra string is lower, I tried this crazy rhythm out on it. It sounds like the bass has a twitch. It’s the fastest song of the bunch, something like 135 beats per minute. Play this in your spin class. This song should come with a qualifier: This song can produce seizers. Come get your rave on.
I'm Mad At You Because You Are Mad At Me –This is really fast, the third or fourth song I ever did on bass. We added a lot of spaceship sounds. It kind of grabs you, brings you down, and forces you to understand the rhythm of the song. If you listen to it, you are forced to follow every note.
9/4 – That’s the time signature: 5/4 and 4/4. I can listen to this song for hours. I can’t get enough of that odd time signature. I don’t think of the time signature when I’m playing it. I just want to start and finish the whole phrasing.
Labryinth – I’m using a special technique on the intro, tapping on the strings. This whole song is a journey of crazy. It goes in weird places it shouldn’t go. There is a lot of musical misbehaving on this song. One part might be in 6/8, another part in 4/4. Within a minute, there’s a whole bunch of wrong. Labryinth misspelling intended!
Dishko –This is a “listen to me” song; you can dance to it or whatever. Initially there weren’t any lyrics, but Matt encouraged me to write some. When I have to wait for a long time, I let my imagination go. In my head, some guy is in a long line at a bank. He wants to rob it and become a gangster and take over the bank and make people do whatever he tells them to do. I don’t know why I wrote about that, but that’s what the song told me to write.
Tag Team- This song is about women liking jerks and guys who treat them like garbage. I drew on the bitterness of that. The protagonist of the song doesn’t treat women like garbage but he believes that all girls go for pieces of crap, even though that's not completely true.
RSVP- This song is about someone who wants to be in a relationship, but then again, really doesn't. It’s a semi-cry for help with crocodile tears.
